Frequently asked questions

Everything worth knowing before you install the plugin.

General

Is it really free?+
Yes. The plugin is free and open source under the GPLv2 licence. The required ChessPairings account is also free.
What languages does it support?+
The interface follows your WordPress site language. This presentation site is available in Italian, English, Spanish, French and German.
Which sites can I use it on?+
Any self-hosted WordPress site (wordpress.org), with any theme.

How it works

Can I manage the tournament from my site?+
No. The plugin is display-only: it shows tournament data but does not let you create tournaments, generate pairings or enter results. Those operations stay on ChessPairings, in the arbiter's hands.
What can I display?+
Full tournament page, standings with tie-breaks, round pairings, players, regulations, a registration button, a tournament calendar, and the team-tournament views.
How do I add it to the site?+
With the "ChessPairings Tournament" Gutenberg block (choose view and tournament ID) or with the equivalent shortcodes, e.g. [chesspairings_classifica id="2898"].
Is the data real-time?+
It updates automatically server-side, with a cache configurable between 30 and 300 seconds. It isn't an instant stream, but the site always stays in sync without generating unnecessary traffic.

Account and data

Do I need a ChessPairings account?+
Yes. You generate a free API key from your profile and paste it once into the plugin settings.
Which tournaments can I show?+
Your account's tournaments and the public tournaments of your federation. You cannot show other users' private tournaments.
Does the plugin use cookies or trackers?+
No. All calls happen server-side: the visitor receives no cookies or trackers from the plugin, and the content is native HTML indexable by search engines.
